2008/11/29(Sat) Jo will be making a guest appearance at the CapiCon, sponsored by the Hero Initiative, on Dec. 7, 2008 from 10 AM - 3 PM, where she will be signing almost anything you put in front of her and chatting with you about the comic book industry. You might even be able to coerce her into doing some commission sketches, something she rarely does any more.
Come by and say 'hi' and help support the Hero Initiative, a very worthy cause established to aid comic book creators in time of need with supplemental health, medical and quality-of-life assistance.
The event is being held at the Dunn Loring Volunteer Fire Department at
2148 Gallows Road Dunn Loring, VA 2a2027 Tel: 1-703-893-1340

2008/08/20(Wed) Jo Chen Appearing at Anime USA 2008 in Arlington, VA October 10 - 12 | Jo Chen will appear at Anime USA 2008, October 10 - 12 in Arlington, VA (i.e. Crystal City, VA).
Jo will be doing portfolio reviews, possibly a panel on comic book art and of course, she'll have plenty of signed art prints and comic books for sale including her new sketchbook Doodles From the Margin volume 3, The Other Side of the Mirror, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Runaways, Street Fighter, etc. Or bring your own copies for her to sign. Either way, it's all good. She even designed this year's T-Shirt!
Come one, come all to the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City. |

Jo will have plenty of signed art prints and comic books for sale including The Other Side of the Mirror, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Runaways, Street Fighter, etc. Or bring your own copies for her to sign. Either way, it's all good.
Look for Jo at the UDON Comics display/booth in the main covention hall or consult your convention program and map for the exact location.
Looking forward to seeing you there at the Baltimore Convention Center. Be there or be square. |
2008/06/19(Thu) Jo Chen at Can't Stop the Serenity screening in Arlington, VA on Sat. June 21 | The folks of the Northern Virginia (NoVA) Browncoats chapter have invited me to attend the 'Can't Stop the Serenity' screening this Saturday, June 21 at 5:00 PM at the Arlington Cinema Draft House in (you guessed it) Arlington, VA.
I myself will be there around 4:00 PM with pumpkin seeds in tow to meet and greet anybody who wants to say 'hello' or have any comic books or artwork signed.
I won't be able to stay for the entire screening as pumpkin seeds tend to be frightened of darkened theaters filled with pitchers of spud and raucous fans watching great science fiction, hootin' ana hollerin'.
For those living a uni-bomber existence and don't know, the screening and its proceeds are for the charity Equality Now whose mission is to "end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure."
To do my part, I'm attending and have donated a print of one of my 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' cover paintings to auction off. It's a 'Faith' cover and it's signed by me, Joss and Eliza D. who were way too cool to take the time in the middle of the Doll House production! Here is a facsimile of the signed piece.
Come one, come all. See you there! |
2008/06/07(Sat) Buffy the Vampire Slayer issue #20 Since Scott Allie, my editor at Dark Horse, posted my painting for the cover of issue #20 as part of his Buffy editorial, it's probably okay that I post it here for your enjoyment.
As Scott mentioned, Joss and Jeph Loeb and the gang were going for a Norman Rockwell feel on this one which I did my best to capture. Rockwell is a fave of mine and although he didn't receive much respect from other "real" artists during the time that he painted many of his now-iconic Saturday Evening Post covers, he well deserves his current reputation as a truly wonderful illustrator and painter.
In any event, I hope you enjoy my Buffy #20 cover preview. Alyson is making me hungry for popcorn. Gotta run. | |
2008/05/20(Tue) The Other Side of the Mirror volume 2 is out! | TokyoPop again has done a fabulous job packaging the 2nd volume of The Other Side of the Mirror. It really looks fantastic.
Volume 2 wraps up the story of Sunny and Lou with love and bullets. This tome also includes short stories of mine that are near and dear to my heart. My guess is that you'll like them as much as I do: "The Funeral Procession of Stars" and "Peggy".
Thanks to everybody who bought the first volume and made it such a success! Be sure to pick up The Other Side of the Mirror volume 2 and let me know what you think.
Thanks again to my editor Katherine and the crew at TP for a job very well done! |
2008/05/03(Sat) | I swear I'm not a Devil May Cry fan. ³Ìªñ¹êÅç·sµeªk¡A®³°ª_¥S§Ì¶}¤M... |

2008/02/29(Fri) Jo Chen Leaps Back into the Fray with Buffy Issue 16! | Yes sir! It's good to be back among friends and colleagues and I have the pleasure of giving you a sneak peak at the cover of Buffy Season 8 - issue 16. Of course, I will miss seeing Jon Foster's awesome illos, though. I do love his paintings.
With issue 16, I can't give much of anything away but some of you have already read the bit in the most recent issue of Wizard so I'll let that speak for itself.
