Jo Chen FABLE III package art for XBOX special edition

This is one of two pieces of key art that I painted for the new FABLE III game due in October 2010. Todd Elhart of Hubris Studios, my art director on this, and I put a lot of crazy hours into this one. It will be worth the wait!!!

Spike revised - Buffy Season 8 issue #36 cover

After a few comments were made on whedonesque.com about how I flubbed Spike's eye color on the latest Buffy Season 8 color, I conferred with editor supreme, Scott Allie, who confirmed that "Yeah, the eyes should have been blue..." and that the actor has some sort of scar on one of his brows. I never noticed these things, or if I did at one time have forgotten them. And nobody mentioned anything to me when I submitted the final painting. I think it may have been noticed by Dark Horse and JW but maybe they didn't wish to pester me to make such small changes.

Miffed, I went back to look at my reference material and his eyes still looked brown to me but clearly the material was misleading. Night scenes, shadows, etc. So, now his eyes are blue and there is a hint of a scar on his brow.

I hope that everybody is happy or at least happier now. Can't please everybody at all points but I do my best. This should be more to everybody's liking. They were simple changes to make.

Serenity - "Float Out" cover

I'm happy to post my recent illustration for the new Wash one-shot entitled "Serenity: Float Out" from Dark Horse Comics.

Related news: Both Joss and Alan T. have been gracious enough to sign two 13x19" prints of this cover for me to donate to this year's CSTS auction. Just got them back from Joss yesterday. I'll add my sig and they will go to two generous bidders in the auction; a most worthy cause.

My new cover for Marvel's "Girl Comics #3"

I must say that I'm pleased with this one; that doesn't often happen but I was in the right frame of mind when I painted this one and I think it shows. It flows nicely and doesn't seem tired. For those who don't know, this one features Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four, Spider-Woman and Storm from X-Men.

The original pitch for this cover was suggested to me by Adam Warren and was less serious; quite funny in fact. But Marvel nixed it. That's okay because I am happy the way this one turned out and I may paint the original cover idea anyway, just for giggles.

Jo Chen at Anime USA 2009 in Crystal City, VA on November 21 and 22

I look forward to seeing yous guys during my annual guest appearance at Anime USA 2009 in Crystal City, VA on November 21 and 22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

As always, I'll be there shaking more hands than a politician, signing just about whatever you put in front of me and looking at portfolios.

Also, as always, I'm not sure where my table is located but I'm sure to be listed on the program.

I'll have Darkstalkers and Street Fighter prints and posters, Buffy, New Avengers and Runaways stuff, copies of "The Other Side of the Mirror" and more!

Retreat - Buffy Season 8 tpb and my departure from Buffy

Some folks have written to me regarding concerns that I've left the Buffy series as the cover artist. Not so! I'm still onboard. I did have to take off a few issues for personal reasons but I'm back and in fact have already completed 4 new covers!

I'm unsure how these things get started but it most likely stems from a simple misunderstanding or misreading of some statement or other.

Now that that is settled, here is a larger image of my cover illustration for Retreat, the most recent Buffy Season 8 tpb, from none other than Jane Espenson.

Jo Chen on Wonder Woman

A while back, my friend Sonia at D.C. Comics had me do some detailed pencils of Wonder Woman for an undisclosed project. I haven't been able to post them until now. Hope you like 'em.
